The man fought with police Officer Scott Musselman, punching him in the head, face and torso. Then he tried to pull the officer's handgun from its holster, according to charging documents.

Musselman heard a click and knew the holster's retention system -- a mechanism that locks the gun inside -- had been released.

The West York Borough officer fell down, trying to break the man's grip. But that did not stop the man from continuing his barrage of punches and kicks on Musselman, charging documents state.

After more struggling, Musselman was able to pull the gun from its holster and fired several shots at the man, who ran away, charging documents state.

Randall L. Alloway Jr., 26, of the first block of North Hartley Street in York was charged with aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, escape, possession of a small amount of marijuana and public drunkenness.

As of Tuesday night, Alloway was in York County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Charging documents state that, at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Musselman arrested Alloway and a woman for public drunkenness after he saw them walking in the 1000 block of West Market Street.

The woman told Musselman she and Alloway were walking home after spending time at a nearby bar, charging documents state.

When Musselman asked Alloway if
he had any weapons or drugs, Alloway ran. Musselman caught up to him, the two began fighting and Musselman fired his gun, charging documents

Musselman got back to his police cruiser, and called 911, giving a dispatcher a description of Alloway and what had just happened, charging documents state.

About 15 minutes later, two West Manchester Township police officers saw Alloway running east on the railroad tracks near the 700 block of Linden Avenue and used a Taser to subdue him.

They found a small plastic bag of what they believed to be marijuana in one of his pockets, charging documents state.

Charging documents, written by state police Trooper Jesse Sims, did not say if Alloway was hit by any of Musselman's shots. Sims was not available for comment Tuesday night.
