Kermit Glatfelter of Jackson Township has alerted the York County Republican Party that he is interested in running for the state House of Representatives' 196th District seat.
State Rep. Bev Mackereth, R-Spring Grove, will not run for re-election this year so she can take over as York County's director of human services.
Glatfelter, 60, works as a tractor-trailer driver. He is a former Republican committeeman from Codorus Township and a former Coast Guard auxiliary member. If elected, he said he would like to impose more stringent requirements on public welfare and crack down on illegal immigration.
Tonight, Republican committee members from the 196th District will nominate one of four aspiring lawmakers to run as the Republican candidate in November.
